About Dr. Sponagle
Dr. Peter Sponagle grew up in Ivy, just outside of Barrie, on a beef farm. As a youngster, he raised and showed beef cattle and rabbits. As a teenager, he worked on horse and beef farms around Ivy. Dr. Sponagle's interest in veterinary medicine came from seeing how the farm vet could work with a variety of species.
After graduating from Barrie North Collegiate Dr. Sponagle attended the Ontario Veterinary College, graduating in 1995. Dr. Sponagle was on staff at emergency clinics in Kitchener and Illinois, before returning to Barrie in 2002 to raise his family. He has provided relief work for area veterinarians since 2003 and has been at Mapleview Animal Clinic since 2011.
Dr. Sponagle has a particular interest in endocrinology and emergency medicine.
Dr. Sponagle and his wife, Sara, have 3 daughters and 2 dogs - Nelson (an American Staffordshire Terrier), Nezumi (a Caribbean rescue - possibly Dachshund x Chihuahua aka a "chiweenie"), and 2 cats - Agamemnon (Aggie for short) and Pippin.
In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, running, cross-country skiing, playing hockey and baseball, and repointing the stone walls of his 150 year old farmhouse.
